In 1918, during the Spanish Flu pandemic, there were mask mandates in the US. People were fined for not wearing masks. Some were even given the choice of going before a judge over the offense or going joining the military. I couldn’t imagine being forced to go into the military simply for not wearing an ineffective cloth mask.
But the pandemic did end. People still got sick, but fewer died. Lockdowns and masks were just as effective back then as they are now. They were completely useless in blocking spread. Just like now. All of that ended when people just stopped complying. BTW, they didn’t put up with the pandemic measures for long. A lot less than we have. As a percentage of the population, three times as many people died as now, but not enough for people to believe it was as serious as the government was trying to make it.
If the unwashed masses of a hundred years ago, with no computers, internet or modern medicine could figure out this is a scam perpetrated by the government, what’s the matter with people today?
